Saying Goodbye to Emily…
GOODBYE LOVELY EMILY…
Emily Hislop, Vintage Vibes Service Co-ordinator, 2015 – 2019
This week we said a fond farewell to the wonderful, warm-hearted, whimsical, witty Emily Hislop.
Emily started at Vintage Vibes when it was no more than an idea. Emily, Caroline and Heather worked tirelessly with LifeCare and Broomhouse to build Vintage Vibes into the fabulous project it has begun.
From next week, Emily will be moving over to our allies Age Scotland, and we couldn’t be more delighted for her. Emily, we know you will make a great impact in everything you do there!
For now, our Spreading the Word Superstar Nate asked Emily about her experience at Vintage Vibes…
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF VINTAGE VIBES?
“The people that I meet, both VIPS and Volunteers. The volunteers are so willing to help and caring, they are really connected to Vintage Vibes and want to see it succeed.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JOIN VINTAGE VIBES?
“My background is in sport sciences, from that I was looking at the well-being in over-60’s. When there came an opportunity to help in Edinburgh and make VIPs lives better, it seemed like an opportunity for me.
Every day is completely different. Most days involve meeting volunteers and visiting VIPs, catching up with the volunteers and making sure the training is up to date.
Three people were on the team when Vintage Vibes started; we did everything from scratch, and as we’ve gone on we’ve been able to get more resources. I didn’t want the brand to be formal as this doesn’t really inspire much friendship – which is what were all about.”
WE HEAR YOU ALSO VOLUNTEERED WITH VINTAGE VIBES?
“I also started volunteering at Vintage Vibes (as well as being a Service Co-ordinator) about 8 months into when it began, volunteering with my husband. It was amazing to see another perspective.”
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT?
“When I first started, I didn’t really know the impact someone could have spending time with another person. The VIPs and volunteers create a sense of community and volunteers make a big difference in a VIPs life.
I’m also amazed by how different each VIP is from another, we can forget that, so it’s nice and really refreshing for me to remember. The age group is inspiring and I want to do as much as I can to help them. The VIPs have made an impact on my life, I would love to spend every day with them. It’s always amazing to see them and have a catch up”.
GOODBYE LOVELY EMILY – WE WILL MISS YOU!
