THANK YOU: Georgia Burnside
Introducing Georgia Burnside – Researcher and Creative Whizz
For the past six month Georgia has been an invaluable member of the team at Vintage Vibes, volunteering her time to help us discover the impact of Vintage Vibes on our VIPs. She has then worked tirelessly to turn this into creative campaigns across the city.
Gee, you are amazing and we love everything you have done for us so far! Thank you.
Here’s Georgia’s story…
“During my time volunteering for Vintage Vibes, I have carried out a research project consisting of a set of informal interview questions which I have been discussing with VIPs (over 60s) via phone call or home visits. The questions highlighted three outcome areas and discussed how helpful volunteers are, and various activities that VIPs are getting to do with their volunteer.
In connection to my final year university studies at Edinburgh Napier University (BDes HONS – Graphic Design), being given the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience with Vintage Vibes has been a highly beneficial and stimulating part of my project. I chose to focus my Major Project topic on loneliness and social isolation due to this being a highly current and culturally relevant issue. I decided to transform this issue in to a creative awareness project using my first hand research as a starting point.
I have created a campaign titled “Only the Lonely” consisting of a large loneliness box which has been taken out into several public spaces across Edinburgh. The aim of this was to allow people to step inside and experience what it feels like to be isolated within a large crowd of people, highlighting the fact that you don’t have to be alone to be lonely and that a lot of loneliness is totally invisible.
My campaign has expanded in to several other creative pieces including a poster series, a typographic book and a short film.”
