Tackling Loneliness: Vintage Vibes launches!
Tackling loneliness in Edinburgh – Vintage Vibes has launched!
We had a fantastic launch event last week, on 2nd March 2016. Over 50 people turned up to hear the Vintage Vibes story – such as how we’re tackling isolation and loneliness in older people in Edinburgh.
LifeCare Chief Executive Su Millar and Centre Manager at The Broomhouse Centre Marie Anderson were first up. They talked about the history of the partnership and how Vintage Vibes came about. They described the years of research, consultation and fundraising which has culminated in a fabulous new service.
Moreover, this new service is already making a difference. Vintage Vibes has a unique approach to befriending, building real friendships based on genuine and shared interests. And importantly, the friendships with Edinburgh’s older people are not time limited!
Our new volunteer, Romany, moved many with her lovely speech about the friendship she and VIP Annie have established. Romany is affectionately known as ‘my wee girl’ by Annie, and the two enjoy having a catch-up each week and watching TV together.
The audience was also treated to three gorgeous and upbeat songs by The Vintage Chorus. It’s a choir made up of (mostly) older people from around Edinburgh, who are affiliated with the Festival and King’s Theatres. They are encouraging everyone ‘with a song in their heart’ to get involved.
