Vintage Vibes Launches Easter Fundraiser!
The pandemic has made Edinburgh’s over 60s lonelier than ever, so Vintage Vibes volunteers are raising funds to make a difference.
65% of older people living alone say the pandemic has made them lonelier
34% of older people say they feel less motivated to do the things they enjoy
7% of older people say they don’t have anyone to turn to when they need support
Edinburgh is the loneliest city in the UK for older people. We work to tackle chronic loneliness in over 60s by creating long lasting friendships and groups since 2015 – but our work is in more demand than ever since the pandemic.
To raise funds and awareness to extend our work across the city, volunteers and over 60s have come together to create handmade Easter crafts and cards to sell. All the items have been designed and created by volunteers and VIPs, and all proceeds go towards creating new friendships within Edinburgh.
Items include Easter card packs, Easter bunnies, Easter chicks and bags made by the Vintage Vibes Sewing Bee, a group created to bring together volunteers and isolated over 60s for a social group and a place to learn fab new skills. All their items are handmade from recycled and reclaimed fabrics. The Easter cards are designed by a volunteer and printed for free by Phoenix Group.
Alongside items to buy, members of the public can also ‘pay it forward’ by supporting the costs to send a VIP (isolated over 60) a handwritten Easter card and chocolate Easter egg, as well as supporting other much needed items such as volunteering training.
